Last Holiday: Not that bad, worth a watch
Normally you wont see me stray into the chick flick categories. If you do it will probably be talking about how much I had really disliked a movie. I am far from an objective reviewer and will leave those comments to someone more interested in the topic. If I do happen to watch a movie like this, I'll still post a review so that like minded people can get an idea of how I felt. Now with all that out of the way, I'm going to sheepishly admit I actually liked this show. Yes, I know there were no weapons or fire, but I still enjoyed it.
The Last Holiday stars Queen Latifa as a sales rep in a department store. As the result of a workplace accident she finds out that she only has a few weeks left to live. This begins an adventure in which she decides to take her life savings and blow it all in her last few weeks. Many times I found myself thinking that I may do some of the random stuff that she did, if I only had a few weeks to go and I knew it.
The main part of the story takes place when she decides to fly to a very fancy hotel in the mountains frequented mostly by people with large amounts of money. Living in style she decided to arrive at the hotel in a helicopter immediately catching the attention of everyone on the ground. Add to this the other big spending she does on shopping and her $4000 a night presidential suite and people begin to believe she must be rich and powerful. Unlike the rest of the rich and powerful people at this resort, Latifa has an understanding of the working class folks who are waiting on her. This leads to many situations that endear the staff to her while making the rich believe she must be extremely powerful to get such special treatment.
Most of the story is about the conspiracy and paranoia about who she could be from the rich guests. She never talks about what she does or who she is and this leads to rampant speculation. Every attempt by the rich to find out more information about her from the staff is blocked as the workers find out her past and why she is there.
Rather than just calling this a chick flick, I'd consider it a working class flick with a female leaning. It does have a plot, it does have a few ok actors, and it even has LL Cool J so that adds something right there. He's not a major player except at the beginning and end, but he's there. If you're bored at home and NetFlix drops this off on your door by accident, then you may as well watch it since the mail wont be picked up till tomorrow anyway to send it back.
